Our Values

Antithesis Press is a small, radical press dedicated to amplifying Trans and Queer voices, preserving our histories, and challenging systems of oppression through storytelling. We believe in the transformative power of narrative to combat erasure, foster solidarity, and celebrate the vibrant diversity of Trans and Queer experiences. We believe that it is vital that our stories are shared and in doing so, preserved.

We publish Queer and Trans voices for Trans and Queer audiences, not books designed to apologetically make us palatable for cis-het audiences.

Through books, archives, and community collaboration, we strive to ensure that Trans and Queer stories are not only heard but remembered— because our histories are sacred, our voices essential, and our futures worth fighting for.

Our Team

Kate Walton-Elliott
co-founder

Longtime journalist and longer time nurse, Kate founded Antithesis Press with her wife, Kathryn, after hearing from author-friends about the challenges of getting published as trans women. There are only so many times you can hear editors and agents saying, “This is amazing, but not mainstream enough.” without feeling driven to do something about it.

Kate decided that her background in journalism and technical writing would stand her in good stead, asked her author friends if they were interested, and then took the leap.

She transitioned in a time before trans people existed (at least, according to current popular disinformation). After nearly a decade of marriage, she emigrated to the United States where she’s lived ever since with her very patient wife, a small flock of chickens, and her classic car.

Kathryn Walton-Elliott
co-founder

Kathryn is excited to be a co-founder of Antithesis Press. Books have filled and enriched her life since childhood, so what better adventure than working out how to get more amazing stories out there? With a career history in cultural institutions and educational program support, she also loves to learn and to help others get their hands on world-expanding ideas.

In her spare time, she reads (of course), drinks quantities of tea, and holes up with paper and thread to create odd pieces of art. She lives in the PNW with her powerhouse of a wife and a motley crew of chickens.
